Bobby was a golden retriever who was so neglected that he was just a shadow of himself. Rescued from his owner in Bali, Bobby was in very poor condition. Thankfully, Bobby’s owner agreed to surrender him and thus began Bobby’s journey to become his most glorious self.
He was rescued by the animal rescue organisation Mission Pawsible and was taken to the vet as soon as possible. The vet found that Bobby was suffering from a skin condition and a blood parasite, which explained why he didn’t have much fur and why he was so thin. Bobby was taken into foster care with the intent of providing him medical treatment and to make him healthy again.
This is Bobby. He is a golden retriever but was so neglected he didn’t even look like one.
When his owner agreed to surrender Bobby to Mission Pawsible, they took him to a vet for a diagnosis and treatment.
He was suffering from a serious skin condition and a blood parasite. These were making him lose his fur and made him very thin.
Thankfully, his foster parents (Tara and Mark) took him in and he was able to start treatment. He responded well to the medication too. He wasn’t a big fan of the cone though!
According to his owner, Bobby is a mellow dog but his difficult life has made him more cautious and nervous.
“Bobby is the most mellow dog who loves the beach and rolling in the sand. He’s starting to become more confident and explorative. You can tell he’s had a rough life – he’s slow to warm to people, dislikes busy streets, and sticks close to my side whenever we’re outside.”
But with time, he’s learning to unwind and get more comfortable in his new life.
“But more recently, he’s started to have moments where he acts/looks like a young dog. He’s started to sniff around more, to run a little further on the beach from me. Above all, he’s just a mellow dog who loves a rub and is happy at home.”
His life is also much better now that he has a new owner. She loves him very much and provides him with all the love and care that he needs.
When asked why she chose him, she said he caught her eye and she knew she had to adopt him.
“The pandemic has been really hard for everyone in Bali, but particularly difficult for dogs who have been abandoned at an unbelievable rate. Months into the pandemic I rescued a little puppy out of a drain in front of my house. While my neighbor went on to adopt the puppy, I felt bad knowing that I could take a dog in now because I was working from home. Bobby caught my eye on Mission Paws’ible’s Instagram account because he has these sad, loving eyes.”
Bobby is a very happy dog and is learning to do new things every day. He really loves the ocean and the beach!
“Despite living in Bali, I think Bobby had never been in the ocean. Although he is a golden retriever mix, he’s a bit afraid of the waves/water. On our third or fourth trip to the beach, we were playing in the sand and I ran into the ocean (ankle deep) and he ran after me. When he realized what happened, he grabbed onto me and wouldn’t let go, so I had to carry him out of the water. It took me months to get him back into the water. While he’ll never be an ocean swimming dog, he now loves a stream, tide-pooling, and rolling around in the sand!”
Golden retrievers are one of the most popular dog breeds in the world. They are known to be gentle, affectionate and excellent family dogs because of their sweet temperament.
When taken very good care of, Bobby would come to look something like this. But with his skin condition, he might not become this fluffy. But he looks amazing anyway.
Golden retrievers are very intelligent and easy to train so they are even used as guide and service dogs.

Bobby is getting happier, healthier and stronger every day with the love and care he gets from his new owner. He is slowly but surely blossoming into the dog he was always meant to be.
His owner says that, “My favorite thing about Bobby is how sweet and gentle he is. I’m impressed that despite being treated poorly by people in the past, he still is able to receive and give affection.”
“I’m surprised that so many resonated with his story. He really deserves a better life than when he was found and I hope that I’ll be able to give him that!”
Bobby is a great example of what is possible when you show someone a little bit of love and how love can help overcome all the past bad experiences.
Bobby is now a happy little pooch and we wish him all the best on his recovery journey. And we’re also thankful for the countless animal lovers who rescue animals in need and give them a second chance at life and a little bit of happiness.
